Summary:
The Summer Teen Internship Coordinator will facilitate the DOROT Summer Teen Internship program for teenagers entering 10th-12th grade from diverse Jewish backgrounds and experiences.
This seasonal summer program offers a new way for high school students to explore a range of Jewish values and communal responsibility while gaining meaningful leadership experience through intergenerational community service.
The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker and experienced group facilitator.
Experience working with high school students is critical; a passion and skill for developing teen leadership; an understanding of and ability to create meaningful intergenerational connections and the knowledge needed to put experiential Jewish learning and values at the center of the teen's internship experience.
Essential
Responsibilities:
Coordinate with Suffolk Y JCC staff to manage program logistics and administrative needs.
Utilize DOROT's existing curriculum and tool kit to plan and facilitate all program components including orientation, Jewish service-learning, teen leadership and reflections sessions.
Connect teen's exploration of Jewish values to their service and intergenerational experiences in the program.
Review teen applications and conduct group interviews with teen applicants.
Serve as coach and mentor to teen interns individually.
Ensure the development of a strong collective teen cohort.
Train and support interns to plan and facilitate intergenerational programs.
Serve as liaison between parents, teen interns, and the Suffolk Y JCC.
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Required Education and
Experience:
BA or similar experiences.
Graduate students welcome.
Experience in experiential teen programming.
A passion for working with high school students.
Exemplary and engaging group facilitation and mentoring skills.
Motivated self-starter who works collaboratively with team members.
Comfort and ease working with the elderly.
Proven ability to embrace the diversity of Jewish connections, including all backgrounds and expressions that represent multiple narratives.
Excellent communication skills both spoken and written.
Comfort with Microsoft Office.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a seasonal position working a day shift, Monday through Friday, with pre-program work required prior to start of program 2-5 hours a week from March-June 30 20 hours a week in July and 40 hours a week in August.
